Marvell Adams became Collington’s Executive Director on August 1, 2011, following an intensive, seven-month search process that included interviews with approximately 100 candidates in the senior living field. Marvell came to Collington from Rochester, N.Y., where he was Chief Operating Officer at The Highlands at Pittsford, a leading continuing care retirement community. He received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston and earned a master’s degree in health administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Representatives of both Collington and Kendal served on the Search Committee appointed by the Board. The qualities being sought in an Executive Director were defined in a consultative process involving focus groups that included 14 Board members, eight Collington supervisory staff, 29 Collington frontline staff, 63 Collington residents and eight Collington leadership team members, for a total of 132 participants. “Marvell is an exceptionally personable, energetic leader, and will bring to Collington a passionate commitment to promoting the well-being of older adults,” Collington Board Chairman Paul Cooney said in announcing the appointment. “Marvell brings a strong balance of experience in both operational and strategic aspects relating to continuing care retirement communities.”
Marvell has been elected to the 2017 LeadingAge Board of Directors. A national charitable organization focused on education, advocacy and applied research, LeadingAge is dedicated to expanding the world of possibilities for aging. Marvell was included on a slate of board nominees approved by LeadingAge members during the organization’s annual conference in October 2016. The LeadingAge Nominations and Awards Committee is charged with identifying the best candidates to lead the association, “balancing skills, ethnicity, experience, geography, gender, organizational profile, age and other factors that will result in a strong and diverse board.”

Justin has more than 10 years’ experience partnering with clients, internal departments and senior management to develop strategies and implement solutions to drive growth and meet performance goals. He has demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams to analyze financial performance and business operations, while implementing financial controls and processes with an emphasis on productivity improvement and results. Justin has a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, and he has a wealth of progressive experience in corporate finance, investment banking, consulting, process analysis, strategy development and accounting. He focuses on delivering strengthening relationships and building loyalty.
Justin was most recently the Director of Finance at Greenspring Village, a 2,000 resident Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) providing independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, inpatient, outpatient, home support, certified home health and hospice services. He was responsible for leading a team tasked with the development, implementation, monitoring and execution of the community’s operating and capital expenditure budgets. During his tenure, Justin successfully implemented financial and operational strategies to reach financial goals and key performance metrics.

Susan Deller heads up Collington’s Sales and Marketing Team. She has more than 30 years of diversified expertise in sales/marketing and management. She came to Collington in June 2012 following a successful sales career at Shannondell at Valley Forge, a large Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Audubon, Pa., where she helped hundreds of older adults make the transition to retirement with minimal stress and anxiety. Prior to Shannondell, Susan was a regional apartment property manager and a successful entrepreneur for many years in publishing and apartment management consulting.
Christian Taylor Ramsey
Director of Dining Services
Christian is skilled culinary professional known for his comprehensive knowledge of multiple cuisines and an innovative approach to setting the stage for a customized dining experience. He has more than 10 years’ experience with kitchen operations and staff supervision and has previously served as an executive chef and manager for restaurants and as a cook and purchasing agent for Westminster-Canterbury retirement community in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Christian has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in food service management from the Culinary Institute of Virginia.

Pam Paterson joined the Collington team in June of 2013. She began her fund raising career as a volunteer, generating philanthropic support for a variety of charities. She has 16 years of professional fund raising experience, working for an archaeology museum and two other non-profit continuing care retirement communities before joining Collington. Pam received a Bachelor’s Degree from Dickinson College and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Pam lives in St. Mary’s County in Southern Maryland where she and her husband enjoy sailing their Morgan Out Island 41 on the Chesapeake Bay.

Brenda Ables brings extensive experience in developing training programs, benefits management, organization and communication and employee-management relations to her role as HR Director at Collington. She describes herself as “a results-driven professional with proven ability to orchestrate, implement and monitor all phases of human resources administration, while coordinating the team’s efforts to ensure daily operations are conducted with the highest quality service.” Brenda graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and earned an MBA, with a concentration in human resources and personnel management, at Adelphi University. Before coming to Collington, she worked as HR director for a federal government contractor with 400 employees and for a property management company in Rockville, Maryland, with 70 employees.
