The Collington Welcome Bag Program

As part of its mission to support the work of our community’s marketing staff, the residents have a Welcome Bag Program.  It exists to support new arrivals on the day they come to Collington by delivering to them a bag of things that will be useful on Move-In Day, and perhaps for weeks and months thereafter.

Here’s how the program works:

  • One resident (the shopper/bagger) buys the Welcome Bag items, stores the contents, and as needed puts together the individual bags.
  • The bagger also prints a range of useful information pieces in the bag (tip sheet, OO Shop coupon, etc.) and includes an inventory of printed items from other sources (OO Shop brochure, MaCCRA brochure, WMATA Metro Map).
  • The completed bags are delivered to another resident (the deliverer) who can store up to four bags in his home at one time.
  • The Marketing Department office manager sends periodic updates about incoming residents noting their unit number and expected arrival.
  • After the construction/renovation of a unit is confirmed and several days before the newcomer’s arrival, the deliverer takes a Welcome Bag to the arrival’s unit. The bag is left on the kitchen counter and a card with important contact numbers is posted on the refrigerator.
  • After delivery, the deliverer contacts the bagger to confirm delivery and note the number of Bags in inventory.
