Whether you live in a cottage, villa or apartment, you can’t go wrong when you choose to live at Collington. But what if you choose to live in a cottage and decide you’d enjoy living in an apartment a few years later? No need to worry! We have an incredible internal moving program set up to help our residents stay comfortable and happy no matter where they are.

Resident Clarita Ricketts is a perfect example of just how simple and worthwhile our internal moving program can be. Clarita has been a member of the Collington community for 7 years and upon her arrival, chose to live in a spacious cottage. She loved her neighbors and the community within the community she became a part of by living in her cottage cluster. However, she began having some trouble with mobility and was struggling to get around the same as she used to. Although she loved her home, she began to realize that being in a cottage meant she was a bit further from the main building than she’d ideally liked to be.
The main building on campus is where most of the action happens at Collington. they’re you’ll find the dining rooms, country store, activity and fitness centers, and all of the other amenities the community has to offer. Due to Collington’s beautiful, sprawling campus, when you choose to live in a cottage, it puts some distance between you and the community hub. For most people the distance is unnoticeable, and the luxury of having their own garden and a glorious view makes up for it.
For Clarita, her growing difficulty walking, along with new restrictions brought about by the coronavirus, helped her realize it was the right time for her to look into relocating. After contacting Associate Director of Sales and Marketing, Cory Hall, to see what apartments were available, Clarita was able to find a place on the 3rd floor with one of the best views she’d ever seen. “This apartment has a balcony! I get to see the sunrise and can take advantage of seeing nature right from my rooms.” Clarita exclaimed.

Though she loves her new apartment, she admits it was quite a job to downsize for her. The cottage where she lived for 7 years was quite large with a living room, bedroom, porch and den. Although she traded her porch for a balcony and her new apartment is only 2 rooms, she says it’s been absolutely terrific. From the minute she made the decision to move, she was forced to get rid of things she no longer needed. Now she feels more at home knowing she has only the things she needs without the extra clutter. Cory Hall agrees that making this kind of move can be the best thing for some of the current residents at Collington, “such a move can be a great option for residents who may want to downsize for a bit of financial relief or those who might appreciate being physically closer to the action in our Community Center.”
Clarita considers her new home to feel more like a posh hotel than an apartment. It has enough space to fit her 7ft grand piano, which was a must for her. Additionally, she finds herself spending a lot of time in the art room doing painting and drawing now that she is so close. She enjoys being close for food deliveries, to the country store, and can easily get to the hot spots on campus in no time at all. Cory was glad to have been able to help Clarita find her new apartment and said, “it’s rewarding to see how happy she is in her new home!”
For residents who may be considering making an internal move, Clarita and Cory can both confirm it is well worth it. Collington takes care of everything and the resident can relax knowing they can relocate when they need to without any added stress. At Collington, the residents are always our first priority and we’ll do whatever it takes to keep them happy, smiling and comfortable!
