Covid-19 Testing

  • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced yesterday numerous regulatory changes for nursing homes and other providers dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks.
  • CMS also confirmed COVID-19 testing for nursing homes will be on going.
  • Nursing homes will be receiving a point-of-contact testing machine and we are awaiting further information on when ours will arrive. This will allow testing results to be quicker and the cost of the tests less expensive.
  • As of August 15, 2020th, Collington is cover the cost for team member testing. The tests are $79 each and we are testing approximately 230 team members each week.
  • There will be federal guidance announced on the frequency of testing.
  • Nursing homes will be required to offer COVID-19 testing to residents (for Collington this means residents on Chesapeake and Shenandoah)
  • Hospitals will now be required to report daily COVID-19 data.
  • Labs will now also have to report COVID-19 testing to the Health and Human Services Secretary.
  • There will also be a national training program for frontline nursing home team members and management.

Recruitment Updates

  • Director of Facilities- candidate chosen and accepted! More information to come on date of start.
  • Horticulturist- Began recruiting for this position on last week (We will miss you Kyle- thank you for all you’ve done for Collington!)
  • Director of Nursing- recruitment in-process

Next Phase of Reopening

  • Proposal on extending campus visits to allow visitors to come in homes has been sent to the Health Services Committee for review and feedback.
  • We are also looking at additional reopening phases for Culinary and will have more information to announce next week.
  • It’s important to know that as we continue through phased reopening’s, that we can’t let up on our health bundle, infection control and safety measures.

2020 FLU Vaccinations

• Our annual influenza vaccination clinic with CVS pharmacy has been scheduled this year to occur on the following dates. CVS pharmacist will be on site on all scheduled days to administer vaccination to the residents and team members.

September 8th, 2020 All residents in the Creighton center. This will include our long-term residents, assisted living residents, as well as our skilled residents who request to be vaccinated.

September 15th, 2020 9:00am – 5:00pm
– All Collington Team Members.
Team members will need to provide their insurance information prior to vaccination so please bring your insurance cards with you.

September 22nd, 2020 9:00am 5:00pm Make-up day for team members.

MedStar Update

• Plans are being made to begin flu vaccinations the week of September 15th, 2020. More information to come.

• Physician after hours and weekend on call number is now activated. Residents can reach the on-call physician by calling the clinic at extension 7791 and the physician contact phone number will be listed on the voice message.

Culinary

Contactless Feedback

  • There will be two terminals posted outside the dining room. One will be for Housekeeping and one for Culinary. We will place QR codes and the website address to leave feedback from any computer or mobile device in this week’s courier.
  • Residents can leave feedback at any time.
  • Open the camera on your mobile device and aim it at the QR code. Your device should recognize it and a prompt will pop up, which you should then click bring you to the correct website.
  • Alternatively, just type in the short web address in the URL bar on any internet application (i.e. chrome, internet explorer, etc.)
  • Click the face that best represents your feelings on your experience and follow the prompts

Want to Use Your Own Bag?

  • Starting Monday August 24th, 2020 any resident who would like to use their own bag will be able too.
  • If residents choose to use their own bag, they will have to fill their bag as they walk through the line. Staff will be restricted from handling your bag.
  • This is optional

Menu Upgrades

  • Starting Monday August 24th, 2020 we will roll out a biweekly alternative menu.
  • This menu will change every two weeks and will be posted in the weekly courier
  • This menu will be call ahead and delivery only
  • Residents will follow current delivery procedures to request this menu.
  • We will also be publishing the vegetarian menu in the weekly courier. We have improved some of these recipes to ensure they are more nutritional
  • Increase salad bar variety
  • Starting September 7th, 2020 we will be making the following upgrades
  • We will have an in home catering menu
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays will have specialty bar options available – Add an carving entrée to Saturday’s

Starting September 14th, 2020 we will be serving fresh pizza from our pizza oven

  • Residents will follow current delivery procedures to request this menu.
  • Pizza will be available Monday through Friday

Chapel Re-Opening Full Guidelines

Full Guideline will be in this week’s Courier

  • Ten or fewer persons in the Chapel at one time; private prayer is allowed.
  • Physical distancing of at least six feet.
  • Masks must be worn at all times.
  • Worship leaders must be Collington residents.
  • No hymnals or bibles except for those brought by participants are permitted.
  • Single use printed materials are permissible.
  • Anyone feeling ill, experiencing Covid 19 symptoms, or having been exposed to Covid 19 must NOT enter the Chapel.
  • Services/Experiences must be limited to 40 minutes

Physical Distancing

  • Physical distancing must be maintained as participants enter and leave the Service
  • Alternatives to forward facing seating are permissible as long as six feet physical distancing is maintained.
  • No physical contact permitted (no handshaking, or hugging)
  • No Communion is allowed in this Phase of re-gathering.
  • The Chapel’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) provides critical air circulation and must be in operation during all services.
  • No use of the Sacristy is permitted except by officiant or designated preparation person. Only one person is allowed in the Sacristy at a time. (This is a small and constricted space without adequate air circulation.)

Music & Sound

  • No solo or group singing or strong group speaking is permissible.
  • Use of microphones is permitted but masks shall continue to be used while using microphones.
  • Organ, piano and non-wind instruments such as violins may be used.

Sanitation

  • Hand sanitizers must be used by each participant before and after the Service.
  • When the Chapel is used for private prayer, each user must clean all surfaces that they touch.
  • Microphones must be sanitized after each touching and before they are passed to others.

Documentation

  • A calendar for the use of the Chapel will be prepared and maintained by the Interfaith Chapel Committee. All group usage must be reserved, be listed on the Chapel Bulletin Board and published in the Courier. The Service Leader may make one-time changes to the schedule by contacting Housekeeping at Ext 4774 and the Chair of Interfaith Chapel Committee.
  • If necessary, to aid in contact tracing, each sponsoring group leader must record participant names. That record must be retained for 60 days.

Cleaning Requirements

  • Each user group is responsible for removing any materials (bulletins, etc.) after the Service.
  • Each group must sanitize equipment such as microphones they used during the Service and return the equipment to its original location in the Sacristy

Library Update

  • As of August 24th it is no longer necessary to make an appointment for the library.
  • Two residents at a time for half an hour.
  • Please check with Barbara Fairchild for when the computer and magnifier are available.
