Community is Collington’s Highest Value

When asked what they value about Collington, over and over residents reply, “the people, the sense of community.” To support that sense of community, in 1966 a group of residents established The Collington Foundation.

Its Mission: To provide and inspire philanthropic support for Collington Life Care Community

Its Vision: To harness our generosity of spirit to nurture the goals and aspirations of all who live, work and serve in our community.

The Collington Foundation

is the philanthropic arm of Collington.  Every gift to the Foundation is important and will benefit the Collington community today and in the future.

A gift to the Foundation can be used to support Collington in many ways: to enhance Collington’s activities and environment, to support residents who experience financial difficulties, to offer scholarship help for employees to continue their education and to support residents’ volunteer efforts in the larger Prince Georges’ community.

Annual Fund

Donations to the Annual Fund are unrestricted, used to support a wide variety of projects at Collington. Grants are awarded from this Fund to support resident-led projects, augment operational or capital needs, enhance our physical environment, and improve or add amenities to the Collington community. The Annual Fund also supports Collington in the Community. As an integral part of Prince George’s County, Collington volunteers partner with underserved schools, non-profits, children and families to serve the broader community.

The Fellowship Fund

As a community, Collington is committed to supporting all its residents. We want no one to have to leave due to uncontrollable financial circumstances. This fund was initially established by a generous grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Washington DC in Collington’s earliest days and has grown over the years by contributions from the extended Collington community. All requests for help with entry and/or monthly fees are held in strictest confidence.

Scholarship Fund

The people who work at Collington are an extraordinary group whose dedication, professionalism and compassion are vital to the well-being and happiness of Collington’s residents. In order to assist them to enhance their job performance and improve their job satisfaction, the Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance for continuing education.

Arts and Culture Fund

Collington residents enjoy a broad range of artistic and cultural endeavors, produced by ourselves, brought in by outside artists and performers, or provided by off-campus activities.  This fund supports both the fine and the performing arts including music, theater, dance, painting, sculpture, and poetry.

Collington In The Community

Through the Annual Fund, the Collington Foundation supports the Outreach Committee of the Collington Residents Association to serve the broader community as a leader and partner in Prince George’s County. Resident volunteers work on a myriad of projects, including partnerships with schools and like-minded non-profits to help underserved children and families, collecting donated food items to deliver at local food banks, and making sandwiches bi-weekly for the homeless.

After a successful inaugural grant submission, the Foundation awarded the committee $14,800 to provide two PG County elementary schools, Kettering and Cora L. Rice Elementary, with needed supplies including Chromebooks, school supplies, new books, backpacks, water bottles, and large Post-It Easel pads.
