Collington’s Board of Trustees draws upon the extensive knowledge of The Kendal Corporation, which has been serving older adults for more than 45 years. Board of Trustees members volunteer their time and talent to serve on Collington’s Board.
Christal Parker Batey
Christal Parker Batey has over 30 years of experience in aging program design, management and implementation including previously working as the Vice President of Organizational Development and Community Relations for Collington. Currently, Mrs. Batey is the Community Resource Advocate for the City of Greenbelt, Maryland’s Assistance in Living (GAIL) Program, winner of the Maryland Municipal League’s Award of Excellence. Under her leadership the GAIL Program was named a Best Practice by the Maryland Department of Aging. Mrs. Batey recently concluded her service to the Prince George’s County Advisory Committee on Aging in 2020 after 27 years and also served as a member of the Aging Advisory Committee for Congresswoman Donna Edwards. She currently is the Northern Sector Lead for Dementia Friendly Prince George’s County, MD. Mrs. Batey is a founder of The Maryland Umbrella Group, a 501 c3 nonprofit serving seniors and children with program and services designed to improve their quality of life and assist older adults desiring to age in community. Mrs. Batey lives in Prince George County, Maryland. She has been married to her husband, Joe R. Batey III for 21 years and has two lovely daughters, Jasmine and Cynthia.

Will is an economist and serves as a Principal Analyst to the Congressional Budget Office. Will has held this position since 2010. As Collington Board Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair, Will works closely with Collington’s CFO in reviewing monthly financial statements, analyzing the annual budget and ensuring adherence to our investment policies. Will is further connected to Collington as his father lives within the community.
Peter Cochran
Port Republic, MD
Peter is new to the Collington Board of Directors in 2021. While attending Drexel University, he worked intern assignments at Campbell’s Soup in Camden New Jersey and the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn Michigan. After graduating, he began a 44-year career with the Bechtel Corporation (Engineering/Construction) as a Cost Engineer. He is a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, graduating from the Blue Ridge School (Episcopal Boarding High School) in Dyke, Virginia. He is currently serving on the Board of a restored/fully functioning One Room School on the grounds of Christ Church in Port Republic Maryland, and serves on this Church’s vestry. Peter is currently assigned to the Collington Audit Committee.
Linda Ewald

After spending many years raising her 2 children, Linda Ewald spent 20 years working as an accountant for law firms and non-profits. During her time with various organizations, Linda learned many important skills such as multitasking, and how to read financial statements and audit statements. After her 20 years as an accountant, Linda spent time volunteering at St. Mark’s Church on Capitol Hill which helped her learn skills that would prepare her for her position on the Board. Additionally, she served as a treasurer for a Capital Campaign at St. Marks, and for the Resident’s Association at Collington. Linda looks forward to welcoming new ideas to the Board so that Collington can continue to be the rich and diverse community that it is today.
Peter Fielding
Mitchellville, MD
Peter is a retired surgeon and clinical professor and has held several leadership positions within the field of medicine over his decades long career. This includes service as Chairs of Surgery for York Hospital (York, PA), The Genesee Hospital (Rochester, NY) and St. Mary’s Hospital (Waterbury, CT). Peter continues to serve the field as a member of the Imperial College Department of Bioengineering Advisory Board (London, UK) and external examiner for Johns Hopkins University Department of Surgery. As a resident of Collington, Peter has served as Chair of the RA Health Services Committee and currently is Co-Chair of the Strategic Plan Implementation Health & Wellness Alliance. Peter serves on the Board Strategic Planning Committee.
Elizabeth Youdin Gill

Elizabeth has been engaged in nonprofit management throughout her professional career. She has served as the Director of Operation at St. Coletta of Greater Washington, been the Executive Director of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop and of City at Peace, and in the final years of her career had her own consultancy helping community-based nonprofits achieve recognition and support. She has served as Board Chair for the Anacostia Playhouse (DC) and Yesterday’s Rose Thrift Store (VA), and provided pro bono services to many organizations. After almost 40 years living on Capitol Hill with her husband and two children, the couple moved to Collington. Here she has been a District Leader, chaired the Resident Marketing Committee, been a member of the Master Planning Committee, and participated in the search for a Director of Sales & Marketing and for a CEO.
Beverly Goggins
Upper Marlboro, MD
Beverly Goggins spent many years of her life working as a registered nurse in New York, Maryland, and Washington D.C. Beverly started her career in the Army and spent 5 years as a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps. Additionally, she worked as a Nurse Education Specialist for Collington from 1993-2000 and later went on to work for various hospitals, medical centers and senior living communities.
Michael Lyles

Since 2019 Lyles has served as the appointed City Attorney for the City of Annapolis, Maryland, where he provides legal advice to, and legal defense of, the City administration and leadership and manages the City’s Office of Law. Previously, Lyles was a partner with the law firm of Stroud Priest, before that serving 8 years (2011-2018) leading the Prince George’s County, Maryland civil rights enforcement agency, as Executive Director of the Prince George’s County Human Relations Commission. During his tenure as Executive Director Lyles was also appointed to lead the County’s anti-human trafficking efforts, which he helped establish and organize. He is also an adjunct professor of Employment Law at the University of Maryland University College.
Adam Osteryoung

Adam Osteryoung works as an Inspections Specialist for Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Previously, Adam worked as an Auditor for Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP where he led his team in the planning and execution of independent financial statement audits of global, national and regional clients to satisfy SEC reporting requirements. Outside of his professional life, Adam volunteered as the Director at Neighborhood Health Center where he oversaw strategic planning and financial reporting. He currently is a Trustee of the Comis Foundation which was established by Collington residents in 2013. Adam also serves as Audit Committee Chair, he oversees the annual financial audit of Collington on behalf of the Board, working in conjunction with Collington’s Chief Financial Officer. He is actively involved in the annual grant-making cycle, funding decisions, monitoring of funded programs, and regulatory and tax compliance.
Norman Prince
Port Republic, MD
Norman has served at various times on the Collington Board of Directors from nearly our very beginnings. He had a 40-year career as a management analyst in the U. S. Public Health Service, Department of Health and Human Services. He retired from service as Chief of Staff to one of the agency heads at the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. Before and even since his retirement in 2001, Norman has performed a variety of services to the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, including Chair of the Finance Committee. Norman currently serves on the the Board Resident Services and Compliance Committee and the Audit Committee.
Peter Rheinstein
Severna Park, MD
Peter is an attorney and geriatrician. He currently serves as President of Severn Health Solutions which provides consultation on drug research and development. Over his nearly 50-year career, Peter has held such positions as Director, Medicine Staff of the US Food and Drug Administration and Chief Medical Officer for CHC Corporation which operated over 2500-beds within numerous extended care facilities. Additionally, Peter has held numerous leadership roles with boards and councils including Chair of US Adopted Names Council, Chair of MedDATA Foundation and Chair of American Board of Legal Medicine. Peter currently serves on the Board Resident Services & Compliance Committee.
Mike Twigg
Washington, DC
Mike has been engaged in the mortgage banking and real estate investment industry since 1974 and is currently the CFO of Ness-Twigg, a real estate development company based in North Bethesda, MD. Michael is President of the Rotary Club of College Park, a former member of the Board of The Queen Anne School, former Senior Warden of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, and the former president of the College Heights Estates Civic Association. Michael joined the University of Maryland School of Music Board of Visitors in 2012 and was elected Treasurer in 2013. Mike serves on the Board Finance Committee.
Susan Walker
Greenbelt, MD
After a career that spanned 47 years in health care, Susan Walker is a retired Licensed Independent Certified Social Worker. Her mission has been a heightened focus on assisting seniors with enhancing their lives with beneficial tools to thrive. She served as Rehabilitation Services and Geriatric Services at both Greater Southeast Community Hospital and MedStar Visiting Nurses Association. Susan’s service included the role of Chief Social Worker and Hospice Director at Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice as well as at Seabury Geriatric Care Management. Since her retirement, Susan was Vice President of the Prince George’s Senior Provider Network, a grass root network for 118 senior providers in Prince George’s County. In this position, she developed and distributed, annually the PGSPN Resource Directory. She founded the Practice and Ethics Advisory Committee in the District of Columbia that offers continuing education and ethics consultation to professionals working with seniors. She is the representative for St. Hugh Catholic Church to the Greenbelt Interfaith Leadership Association with an emphasis on the betterment of the community with other religious organizations in Greenbelt. She is President of the Greenbelt Community Development Corporation whose purpose is to enhance the Greenbelt community and its various neighborhoods by improving all aspects of the quality of life of its residents, business owners, and visitors. She has been a resident of the Greenbelt Housing Cooperative for 42 years.
